Abstract
Presents a brief description of fixed-base flat silicon arrays and gives their advantages over tracking systems in particular climates. The author places great emphasis on silicon solar cells of the future with high performance characteristics allied with low fabrication costs which would be essential to make this a viable source of energy production. The structure of cells capable of achieving efficiencies of up to 21% is presented and further possible developments are indicated.
