Abstract
A method which combines features of the mean spherical approximation and the phonon model is proposed for calculating an effective interatomic pair potential from an observed low-angle structure factor. The method is tested on liquid Na and K near the melting points and gives a promising result compatible with the predictions of the pseudopotential theory. Keywords
