Abstract
A multichannel dynamical calculation for the meson-baryon scattering problem is made in the static model. It is shown that with degenerate isobars, the problem decouples into a set of single-channel problems. This helps us to understand the surprisingly exact coincidence of the results of the strong-coupling theory due to Cook, Goebel, and Sakita and to Singh with those of single-channel calculations by Abers, Balázs, and Hara. Decoupling is also shown to be obtained in the nondegenerate case under some additional restrictions. Keywords
