IODINE METABOLISM IN SURVIVING HUMAN AND CANINE THYROID SLICES1

Abstract
When slices of thyroid tissue were incubated in a fixed volume of medium, both organic and inorganic I were lost from the slice to the medium. The specific activity of the I131 in the medium was sufficiently lowered so that accumulation of radioiodine in the slice was depressed. Since the specific activity of the radioiodine is uncontrollable in the fixed-volume technique, studies made by this method are of limited significance.
