Abstract
A high prevalence of multiple antibiotic resistance was observed in populations of E. coli isolated from fecal samples and carcasses of poultry [chickens] in a University farm. Almost all cultures were resistant to tetracycline, streptomycin, ampicillin and sulfonamide. Association between antibiotics used for prophylaxis or growth promotion and isolation of E. coli with resistance of these antibiotics was observed. Of 648 resistant cultures isolated from fecal samples and carcasses, 100 (15.43%) could transfer resistance determinants to a laboratory strain of E. coli K-12.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
