Abstract
Cage, single-tree, and orchard tests indicate that benzene hexachloride has promise as an insecticide to control the plum curculio on peach. About 1 pound of benzene hexachloride containing at least 10% of the y isomer is needed per 100 gal. of spray for effective control. The material is more effective used as a spray than as a dust. Concs. containing 6 lb. or less of a 31.6% water-dispersible powder per 100 gal. of spray do not injure peach fruit, foilage, buds, bud-wood, or other parts of the tree. The material may impair fruit flavor if used in sufficient conc. too close to the harvest period. In preliminary expts. benzene hexachloride also showed promise for treating peach drops to prevent the emergence and subsequent development of plum curculio larvae.
