Subcortical aphasia revisited

Abstract
A patient presented with aphasia and isolated subcortical lesions on CT scan. Cerebral angiography demonstrated complete occlusion of the middle cerebral artery with collateral supply to the temporal and parietal cortex. However, xenon-133 blood flow studies indicated that this collateral flow was markedly decreased below normal. The evidence for deep subcortical lesions as a cause of aphasia is critically reviewed.
