Abstract
The cabbage tree (Cordyline sp.) on the Poor Knights Islands was referred to Cordyline australis until 1980, when it was suggested that some individuals on Tawhiti Rahi, the largest island in the group, were better determined as C. kaspar, the Three Kings cabbage tree. Field work on the Poor Knights in 1984, and observations of C. kaspar both at the Three Kings Islands and in cultivation on the mainland, confirm this determination. The results indicate that both C. kaspar and C. australis are present on Tawhiti Rahi, and that C. kaspar alone is present on the other large island in the group, Aorangi. It is suggested that C. australis is a recent introduction to the group, perhaps transported there during Maori occupation.
