Abstract
Field research is not for the soft-hearted, the self-conscious, or the person who requires a great deal of structure. Some of the hesitations that many social scientists feel about venturing into the field are discussed. These include the difficulty in remaining anonymous, a reluctance to pry, fear of observing illicit behavior, lack of patience, and personal danger and discomfort. Keywords
