Synthesis of Optically Pure 2,3,4,5-Substituted Tetrahydrofurans from a Bis-Allylic Framework via an Osmylation-Haloetherification Sequence

Abstract
Sequential application of osmylation and haloetherification to bis-allylic substrates such as diethyl (4S,5S)-4,5-bis(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-2,6-octadiendioate and related structures provides a novel route to 2,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted tetrahydrofurans in an optically pure form.
