Abstract
A systematic treatment is given of the energies and widths of domain boundaries in ferromagnetics; it covers cubic crystals, with positive or negative magneto-crystalline anisotropy coefficients, and crystals with a single easy direction of magnetization. This extends the investigations of Bloch (1932), Landau and Lifshitz (1935), Lifsbitz (1944) and Néel (1944) on Cobalt and iron, and enables estimates to be made of the energies and widths of domain boundaries in nickel. The effect of magneto-elastic anisotropy energy is considered. Theoretical values of the energies and widths of the more important types of boundary in nickel, iron and cobalt are calculated. Keywords
