Abstract
The obvious end point sought in studies of the immunologic character of cancers is development of clinical means for immunization. But long before this is achieved, immunologists hope to contribute to knowledge of the etiology of malignant disease—particularly the role of viruses—and to determine the validity of the concept that cell-mediated immunity provides a natural anticancer “surveillance” system.
