Abstract
Iodine vapor was excited by an uncondensed transformer discharge in the presence of argon. A new band system A is recorded. In addition a large number of new bands are found in the band systems A, A, and A reported by earlier workers. These band systems are analyzed and explained in terms of the fairly well-established term scheme of the iodine molecule. The absorption data in the region A are discussed in the light of the present results.
