Abstract
IBM researchers have crafted a nanoscale abacus out of spherical buckyballs lined up along a steplike edge on a copper surface. The device represents the first time scientists have succeeded in using individual molecules to store numerical information at room temperatures, and it points the way to a new generation of computer chips and disc drives. Keywords
