Duration of Immunologic Memory in Mice Primed at Different Ages

Abstract
Studies were performed in order to find out whether the duration of immunologic memory is impaired when priming is done at a time in which the primary anti-body-forming capacity begins to decrease, i.e., at an age of about 12 months. Female NMRI mice of either 3 (optimally responding animals) or 12 months were primarily immunized with a ‘saturated’ dose of 4 × 108 sheep erythrocytes. Both groups of animals were boosted either 1 4, or 8 months after primary antigenic stimulation. The immune responses were measured by the direct and indirect antibody plaque techniques and by serological procedures. There was no significant difference regarding the secondary immune potential of both mouse groups on all examinations.
