The Cross Section of 3He(3He,2p)4He measured at Solar Energies
Abstract
We report on the status of the 3He(3He,2p)4He experiment at the underground accelerator facility LUNA (Gran Sasso). The LUNA data have been obtained within the solar energy region (Gamow Peak), and represent the first measurement of an important fusion reaction at energies below the center of the Gamow Peak located at 21 keV. Consequently solar model calculations are no longer based on extrapolation of the 3He(3He,2p)4He cross section (except at energies at the low-energy tail of Gamow Peak), which reduces significantly the uncertainties of the models. However, the data must still be corrected for the effects of electron screening, clearly observed for the first time in the reaction 3He(3He,2p)4He.Keywords
