Drinking Patterns of the Aleuts

Abstract
Patterns of behavior associated with consumption of alcoholic beverages among the inhabitants of an Aleutian community are described. Despite their heavy and extended drinking, no causes of compulsive or addictive drinking were observed among these people. This is attributed in part to lack of guilt feelings connected with drinking and its effects. Incidence of insobriety, when compared in 3 similar communities, seemed to vary positively with the degree of social disorganization.
