3-Hydroperoxy-3-methyl-2-phenyl-3H-indole Thermal Decomposition and Chemiluminescence

Abstract
Thermolysis of 3-hydroperoxy-3-methyl-2-phenyl-3H-indole(1) [which shows inhibitory effects on prostaglandin I2 synthetase] in dimethyl sulfoxide showed chemiluminescence and 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-2-phenyl-3H-indole (2) was obtained, while in methanol 1 was converted to o-benzamidoacetophenone. Deoxygenation occurred to give 2-phenylskatole on the thermolysis of 1 in benzene.
