Abstract
Samples (261 of 770) of raw milk contained mycabacteria. Representatives of Runyon''s Groups n, HI and IV were identified among the isolates. Biochemical, serological and biological tests suggested that a small minority of organisms shared certain characteristics with M. kansasii. There was a significantly higher rate of isolation of organisms during winter than spring or summer. Winter samples produced significantly more pigmented and photochromogenic strains than those from the other 2 seasons. The relationship between seasonal variation in rate of isolation of organisms from milk and from human material was very close. Keywords
