Abstract
Resonant photoemission studies have been performed on the 3d transition metals Cr, Mn, Fe, and Co. No valence-band satellites are observed for clean evaporated films of these materials. Previously reported structures at binding energies around 6 eV are thought to be due to trace amounts of oxygen contamination. This is consistent with more recent results on Fe. The absence of satellites in these elements is understood in terms of the wider bands and smaller intra-atomic Coulombic repulsion than for the case of Ni where distinct satellites exist. Keywords
