Abstract
An attempt to prepare 2-phenylazirine by treating acetophenone dimethylhydrazone methiodide with methylsulfinyl carbanion gave 2, 4-diphenylpyrrole instead of 2-phenylazirine. The reaction of 2-phenylazirine with the carbanions derived from acetophenone, ethyl benzoylacetate, and benzyl cyanide gave the corresponding pyrrole derivatives by ring enlargement. Keywords
