Abstract
A multichannel pseudo-spark switch (MUPS) has been incorporated into a low-impedance parallel-plate capacitor (C=5 nF, Ltotal=1.65 nH), with the completely closed MUPS contributing less than 0.5 nH to the total inductance. Triggered by a low-current gas discharge, 10-19 parallel pseudo-spark discharges are initiated synchronously. The jitter is 1 ns. The rate of current rise is limited by the resistive breakdown time and amounts to 2.4*1012 A s-1 at an applied voltage of 10 kV and a peak current of 14.5 kA. The resistance of the fully closed MUPS is less than 0.02 Omega . Under these discharge conditions, the recovery time of the MUPS is about 20 mu s.Keywords
