Abstract
Summary: The paper deals with the geology of the Permian, Triassic and Jurassic rocks penetrated by the Eskdale No. 3 (Sleights), Eskdale No. 4 (Sneaton), Eskdale No. 5 (Eskdalegate), Eskdale No. 6 (Upgang) and Eskdale No. 7 (Rockhead) borings, put down by Imperial Chemical Industries Limited in search of workable deposits of potassium salts. An account of sedimentary structures in the Permian evaporite succession is given and this succession is shown to result from a series of cycles of evaporation. Correlation with the Permian succession of South-East Durham is attempted.
