Abstract
Slices of potato tuber were mounted horizontally as cantilever beams. The downward curvature of wilted slices was found to agree with that predicted by the theory of a cantilever beam. When the thickness and width of slices, as cut, were adjusted for damaged cells on the surfaces the apparent values for Young's modulus, E, were independent of these dimensions. Small changes in weight can be associated with large changes in the apparent value of E.This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
