Abstract
A roentgen study was undertaken on the Trabeculum canalis symphysis mandibulae ("Trabeculum"), the bony structure which envelops a nutrient canal ("Canalis"). It terminates in the lingual foramen. With regard to the occurrence and size of these structures, no significant sex differ -ence was found on the radiographs. On routine intraoral radiographs the "Trabeculum" alone could be demonstrated in 75% of the cases. Only 10% of the radiographs exhibited the images of both the "Trabeculum" and the "Canalis". The corresponding figures for radiographs taken in different specifically selected projections were 91.5% and 70%. There was no significant difference between the projections used. The assumption that the "Canalis" has an arch-like orientation in the vertical plane was confirmed. An attempt was made to estimate the frequency of occurrence of these structures in vivo, and a figure of 95% was found. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
