Abstract
Numerical results for the number distribution of electrons above a given energy due to primary electrons and photons are given. The average numbers derived from the distributions are also given. Values are presented both for the case of approximation and for more accurate cross sections at low energies in air. Collision losses and Compton effect are taken into account but scattering at low energies is neglected. The calculations were carried out using Monte Carlo methods on the electronic digital computer SILLIAC. The results of the calculations are discussed and compared with previous work on the subject.
