Abstract
General anesthesia in man was accompanied by changes in plasma volume which were opposite in direction to simultaneous changes in arterial and venous pressures. Various anesthetic agents had different hemodynamic actions, and thus affected plasma volume differently. The contraction or dilatation of viscera containing a high erythrocyte concentration is probably not important in producing blood volume changes during general anesthesia in man.Keywords
