Abstract
(1) A method by which the clinical radiotherapist may estimate for himself the total amount of energy absorbed by a patient, is described and discussed.* (2) An attempt to correlate biological effects of radiation with the total energy absorption is described. (3) The detailed effects of a course of radiotherapy on the blood count are shown for some cases. (4) The trial of histaminase as a remedy for radiation sickness is suggested for the first time because of its uniform success in these experiments. (5) The nature of the action of radiation on tissues is discussed with reference to the effects of ascorbic acid and histaminase on the blood count and on radiation sickness. Keywords
