Application of the oral trail making test to a mixed clinical sample

Abstract
The oral and written versions of the TMT were evaluated with respect to demographics and task performance levels in a mixed clinical population. Age, motor speed, as well as written TMT-B performance scores were analyzed. Although differences were found among the raw scores for the various tasks, the ratio of written to oral TMT-B did not differ regardless of age, motor speed, or TMT-B performance. The findings support earlier studies comparing the two versions of the TMT and indicate that this alternate version of the TMT appears to be a viable assessment tool for patients who have limited visual or motor skills.
