Abstract
The metabolism of cortisol-4-C14 has been studied at physiologic concentrations in two dog heart-lung preparations. The first preparation survived for 100 min. and the second for 75 min. An average of 68% of the radioactivity added was recovered from the heart-lungs. An average recovery of 79% was obtained from blood specimens to which cortisol-4-C14 was added to produce a concentration similar to that in specimens from the heart-lungs. No evidence of metabolism of cortisol was seen in control blood specimens incubated 100 min. at room temperature or at 37[degree]C. Approximately 10% of the radioactivity added to the heart-lung preparations was recovered in a fraction which appears to be 11[beta], 17[alpha], 200, 21-tetrahydroxy-[DELTA]4-pregnene-3-one. The remainder of the recovered radioactivity appears to be unaltered cortisol-4-C14.Keywords
