Abstract
The theory of convergence developed in a previous paper (Delves & Mead, 1971) for variational calculations on inhomogeneous systems is extended to cover a wider class of problems. The theory provides a priori estimates of the convergence rate, and also error bounds in the energy and natural norms, which are easy to compute and hopefully realistic in practice. One feature of these new results is a much simpler, and slightly more powerful, proof of the central Theorem 1.Keywords
