Abstract
In this article, I first review the early school-based approaches to the prevention of adolescent alcohol use and misuse (AAUM), problems associated with the earlier studies, remedies that have been suggested in response to these problems, and current school-based approaches to the prevention of AAUM. Findings from recent studies that I conducted and interpretations of these results are summarized. I discuss issues that I, and other currently active researchers in the school-based alcohol prevention field, find important. I then suggest some possible directions for future research. Keywords
