Abstract
Twenty-three patients with acute colitis due to E. histolytica , and eight with acute hepatic amoebiasis, were treated with dehydroemetine dihydrochloride (mebadin, Glaxo). A new oral preparation, dehydroemetine resinate (DHE) proved a most valuable addition, well tolerated and effective; 13 patients were treated with DHE resinate only, and the immediate cure rate was 100 per cent. There was one recurrence, which may have been a reinfection. The safety and convenience of the oral preparation, DHE resinate, render it preferable to any other compound. Keywords
