Abstract
The transcription initiation sites of the deo operon of Escherichia coli K12 have been determined in vitro and in vivo. Initiation of transcription occurs at two, tandemly arranged, homologous regions which are located 600 base pairs apart from each other. Evidence for a novel regulation mechanism of deo gene expression involving the deoR repressor is presented. Keywords
