Abstract
The decay of a right-hand polarized (whistler) wave is considered in the presence of a spatial gradient of the pump amplitude. It is shown that the low-frequency ion wave can be trapped in the vicinity of the gradient and sufficient conditions are derived for the threshold electric field and ion-wave frequency. The results of the calculation are in good agreement with experimental results. Keywords
