Abstract
The absorption spectrum of the 1,2,4,5‐tetrachlorobenzene vapor lying in the wavelength region between 3040 and 2650 A was photographed and measured. The band at 34 149 cm—1 is assigned as the 0,0 band. The progression with frequency intervals of 1134 cm—1 starts from the stronger bands. Most of the prominent bands are assigned to progressions or combinations of the possible fundamental frequencies. The fundamental frequencies are compared with the Raman values. A tentative assignment of the fundamental frequencies is discussed. The change of the molecular structure in the course of the electronic transition is also discussed. Keywords
