Abstract
Plasma ILA (rat fat pad) were examined. Most patients receiving insulin had elevated levels of ILA at all times measured. Differences were least striking in the fasting state, but ILA of patients receiving insulin was frequently 10-15 times normal prior to the evening meal. ILA of patients with maturity onset diabetes was not as high, but was still significantly greater than that of the control group. Very little correlation was noted between blood glucose concentration and ILA in patients with diabetes. These results indicate that patients with both clinical forms of diabetes may share hyperinsulinism and hyperglycemia, as well as the predisposition to certain vascular complications. Keywords
