To the editor: We read with interest the article by Fauci and associates (1) on Wegener's granulomatosis. We feel it is paradoxical that despite the known responsiveness to cyclophosphamide, immunohistologic and serologic evidence for immune abnormalities is scarce in this disease. We have recently seen four consecutive patients with Wegener's granulomatosis in whom antibodies against SSA (RO) were consistently shown during the active stage of the disease. A 55-year old man had a 5-week history of pneumonia and arthralgia; on admission he had fever, renal insufficiency, nephritic sediment, several nodular cavitating pulmonary infiltrates, and oro-nasal ulcers.
