Abstract
Expts. in which reciprocal grafts of Datura stramonium and Nicotiana tabacum var. Turkish were examined for their nicotine content indicate that nicotine is synthesized only in the roots of the tobacco plant; that the higher concs. of nicotine in the leaves may be due to translocation and accumulation; and that the nicotine moves from root to leaf principally through the xylem.
