Abstract
This chapter explains the coverage of this book, which is about the influence of development, culture, and resistance on the dominant knowledge or intellectual model in India. This book provides a critical interpretation of the social role of modernisation in the context of development and explores the themes of freedom and force in relation to smallpox vaccination. It also evaluates the impact of the introduction of the Western model on local agriculture and modern medicine.
