Abstract
Despite only sparse data suggest the efficacy of oxcarbazepine (Oxz) in treating mood disorders, APA guidelines for the treatment of bipolar disorder consider Oxz an alternative in lieu of lithium or valproate (APA, 2002). The Texas Consensus Conference Panel on Medication Treatment of Bipolar Disorder recommends the use of Oxz instead of carbamazepine in the algorithm for the treatment of bipolar disorder (Suppes et al., 2002). Since suicide is a frequent complication of bipolar disorder, voluntary overdoses with this drug will become frequent. Keywords
