Abstract
The motor vehicle, which has dramatically transformed the way of life of citizens in our urban-industrial society, is assuming greater importance in leisure-time activities. Travel, the central focus of this paper, comprises two phases of Clawson's model of the recreational experience and links the user with the recreational resource. It is, moreover, a function of the structure of opportunities available to the recreationist. Emphasis is, therefore, placed on the characteristics of recreational travel and on factors affecting mobility. The spatial effects of travel are summarized and travel models are reviewed. Keywords
