Abstract
It is shown that a sufficient condition for Birkhoff's (1927) theorem to hold for the Sen-Dunn (1971) and Ross (1972) scalar-tensor theories of gravitation is that the scalar field should be time-invariant. An earlier result due to Reddy (1973) in the case of the Sen-Dunn theory is thus corrected. Keywords
