Isoniazid-Associated Hepatitis

Abstract
In 5 patients who were prophylactically receiving isoniazid because of reactive tuberculin skin tests, clinical and laboratory evidence of acute hepatitis developed; all 5 had no hepatitis-associated antigen in their serum. Liver biopsies revealed abnormalities that varied from noncaseating granulomas to alterations more typically seen with viral hepatitis. It is suggested that monthly clinical evaluation of patients receiving isoniazid be undertaken.
