Abstract
Population abundance, dispersion characteristics, and impact on yields of onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman, on onions were evaluated over a 2-year period (1983–1985) in the lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Adults and nymphs were present from February to harvest (April and May) with peak abundance in early April. Dispersion indexes indicated that populations became overdispersed as density increased above one thrips per plant. A significant negative linear relationship was found between seasonal mean abundance of thrips and onion yield. Keywords
