High-linearity multimode optical fibre sensor

Abstract

Experimental evidence is presented which demonstrates that a multimode optical fibre sensor can have a performance comparing favourably with that of a monomode optical fibre sensor. This is achieved by judicious choice of detection technique and by the manner in which the fibre is strained.
