Abstract
We studied overwrite characteristics in low and high erase power condition for (Sb2Te3–GeTe–Sb) phase change optical disk. The main results obtained so far are summarized as follows. (1) In phase change media, the residual signals don't make the phase jitter worse. This reason is that the erased area is always formed around the written mark by write power. We called this phenomenon the Self Sharpening Effect (SSE). SSE is one of the unique characteristics of the phase change media. (2) The (Sb2Te3–GeTe–Sb) phase change optical disk has wide erase power range that gives enough wide margin for the exchangeability. Keywords
