Abstract
Reductive cleavage of soil humic acids with sodium amalgam led to the formation of at least 18 compounds, the majority of which were not phenolic. Vanillic acid and syringic acid were positively identified, and strong evidence was obtained for vanillin and syringaldehyde. Units atypical of lignin were not observed. The technique would appear to be of limited value for characterizing humic acids. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
