Abstract
The introduction of phenomenological form factors for the electromagnetic interactions of pions and nucleons is shown to lead to a violation of current conservation in standard treatments of exchange effects in nuclei unless these form factors are assumed to be equal. If they are not equal, other processes, which traditionally are not calculated, must contribute to the electromagnetic interaction of a nucleus. Keywords
