Effect of Deafening on the Vocal Behavior of the Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri sciureus)

Abstract
In pairs of female squirrel monkeys the subordinate animal was deafened. Changes were observed in the frequency of vocalizations and in their sequential arrangement. Measurements of the physical aspects of the vocalizations revealed changes in intensity, but not in the quality of the calls.
